I am eternally grateful to John for his love and kindness. His stories live with me always  World War II, meeting Bennie in the train car, the Michigan Years, and more.  

My own children benefited from John, and Bennies, influence as grandparent figures  holiday dinners and family games together, AWANA, and Johns amazing carpentry skills helping Jack and his dad prepare for their first Boy Scout Pinewood Derby.  I know John will meet-up with the rest of his finger in Heaven.

From the Bible, Jesus taught, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.  I was one of the neighbors he loved, and I thank God for John Vandenhuerk in my life.

John, I keep you in my heart -- rest in peace.
