Karen was born in Green Bay, WI and was the oldest of seven children. In 1964, the entire family moved to Arizona, and it was at Casa Grande Union High School that she met the love of her life and best friend, Kelly. They married soon after high school, moved to Tucson, and had two daughters. Karen then found her first job at Up With People. Later, the family moved to Prescott, AZ. While there, Karen graduated from Yavapai College. Her careers largely focused on libraries and volunteer coordination, but her position teaching computer skills to Navajo women in New Mexico was dearest to her. Karen was civic-minded and was especially proud of serving with the Yavapai Symphony Guild, San Juan United Way, and P.EO. International.
She loved to laugh and was the life of any party. She had the most amazing smile and a huge, generous heart. Karen had treasured friends that were like family, and she would always reach out to others with love and concern. She was also a skilled musician and pianist and could bring one to tears with her soulful playing. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Karen is predeceased by her parents, Jack and June François, and brother, Tom. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Kelly; siblings Cindy François (Jerry), Steve François (Debbie), Barbara Rieffer (Lytle), Brian François (Laura), and Mary Rosenbam (Truett); daughters Kriss Hunold (Rob) and Kyle Quinn-Olsen (Dave); and two grandchildren (Quinn and Alden Hunold). She also had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her terribly.
A celebration of life for Karen will be planned for Spring 2026. The family would like to express deep gratitude for the staff at Chandler Regional Medical Center for their exceptional care and comfort. Arrangements are entrusted by Valley of the Sun in Chandler, AZ. Condolences and messages for her family may be expressed by visiting www.dignity.memorial.com.
