Barbara was born in Trenton, New Jersey and formally retired in 2011 and relocated to Arizona to be closer to her daughter. She enjoyed many years as a “snowbird” with a rental home in Chandler, Arizona and a permanent home in Prescott, Arizona, which allowed her to escape the hot summers in the Phoenix area and live in perfect weather all year long.
She was especially proud of her AAS degree achieved in 1985, her AS degree received in 2002 and her Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) designation awarded in 1986 through Professional Secretaries International, all while raising her daughter as her husband traveled full time for work, only home on the weekends for years. Continuing education was important to her and she loved learning.
Barbara enjoyed fresh air, screened in porches, flowers, birds, gardening, tennis, reading, the ocean, playing card games and her two cats, Tom and Jerry.
The family is especially grateful to Barbara’s caretakers over the past few months, especially Agnes and Nav with Sapphire Elite Care Home and Kim, Jennifer, Ken and Sarah with Hospice of the Valley, who all worked together to provide her with comfort in her last days with us.
Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Raymond J. Muhn and Leona Barbara Hyer Muhn; her sisters Marie Unwin, Shirley Manness, Betty Tindall and her beloved brother John “Jack” Muhn. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Jean Marie Brennan-Fontes and son-in-law Mario Fontes of Chandler, Arizona; her soulmate, niece Justine Chamberlain of Seaside Heights, New Jersey; her BFF, Vicki Tindall of Whiting, New Jersey; many dear nieces and nephews and her two boys, Tom and Jerry.
Barbara was loved by all who knew her and she will be missed.
Private services will be held.
To celebrate Barbara’s life and make a positive difference in someone else’s, the family requests donations be made in Barbara’s memory to Hospice of the Valley.
