I think of my good friend, often. We met the first week of September 1961, our start of 6 months of US Coast Guard boot camp. Though there were 60 of us green recruits we bonded immediately. I could tell that he was honest, fun and great to be around. We had common interests in sports, family and getting in trouble. Memorable occasions included: Lifting 6 lobsters during galley duty for weekend enjoyment; playing on the Base basketball team and high jinx on a sea cruise to La Paz, Mexico. We always supported our favorite colleges, he for Washington and me for UCLA. Betty and Marv joined my wife Jan and me to a rival game at the Rose Bowl and my penance for being the losing team was pushups in front of the stadium. We had a strong friendship and only distance curtailed spending more time together.

I just found of  the passing of Marv after being a friend for 60 years. We were young recruits at Coast Guard boot camp for six months, spending hours marching, peeling potatoes, playing on the base basketball team, liberty in San Francisco and training cruises to Mexico. He was a wonderful friend, with a great heart. My thoughts and wishes to Betty. Bruce
