Mary Alice Hawkins

Mary A. Hawkins, 83, passed away on the afternoon of Tuesday June 3, 2025 at her assisted living residence in Chandler, AZ. She was born December 24, 1941 in St Louis, MO to Vernon Minks and Naomi Wood Minks. Mary married John Hawkins on July 3, 1968 in St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her brother Vernon Jr. in 1972, mother Naomi in 1997, father Vernon in 2010, sister Eileen (Ray) Hummel in 2012, husband John Hawkins in 2012, sister Rita (Michael) Evering in 2017, and sister Kathy (Tim) Riedinger in 2021. She is survived by her son Mark Minks of Mesa, AZ, his wife Muriel and their daughter Audrey.

Mary enjoyed gardening and growing her own vegetables. She was passionate about nutrition and buying organic food whenever she could. Mary loved people and participated in a wide variety of church functions. She loved singing, whether it be at church or with the Salt River Project DewWatts singing group, where she once participated in the singing of the National Anthem at an Arizona Diamondbacks Major League Baseball game. She enjoyed visiting France for Mark and Muriel’s wedding in 2000, and visiting Israel in 2018 and getting baptized in the Jordan river. Mary loved spending time with her granddaughter, playing and doing jigsaw puzzles.

Visitation will be held on Saturday June 21 from 12-1 pm at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 E Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248, with the funeral service held immediately following at 1 pm, followed by catered appetizers and drinks at 2 pm. JVMI provides education about the Hebraic roots of Christianity, the Church’s responsibility to Israel and the Jewish People, and how to share the Messiah with the Jewish People. They provide humanitarian and medical outreaches throughout the world.
