Mary Ann Meyers

Mary Ann Meyers, born on December 18, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Lawrence Long and Marie (Kennealy) Long, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Mercy Gilbert Hospital in Gilbert, AZ on October 2, 2010. Mary Ann graduated from Amundson High School in 1945, the same year she met Bill Meyers at a softball game. Mary Ann and Bill were married in 1950 and raised their family in Chicago, Des Plaines and Mount Prospect, IL. In 1990, they moved to Glen Lakes, FL, and in 2002, they relocated to Sun Lakes, AZ. On June 24th of this year, Mary Ann and Bill celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Mary Ann was an extraordinary individual who nurtured and cherished her family above all. She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Meyers of Sun Lakes, AZ; her children Jan Withers (Dave) of Sun Lakes, AZ, Nancy Meyers (Marcey Gillespie) of Las Cruces, NM, and Bill Meyers (Nicole) of Marengo, IL; her grandchildren Erik Skala (Emmanuelle), Megan Tonkin (Mike), Melissa O’Monachain (Daithi), Stephanie, Michael and Scott Meyers, Jaden and Tiffany McKinley; and her great-grand children Olivia, Camille and Cecilia Skala; Veronica, Sierra, Kathleen and Michael Tonkin; her brothers Larry, Jim and Tom Long; many nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kathleen “Kathie” Skala and grandson John Skala.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, respiratory techs, and physicians at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center for the excellent and compassionate care they provided Mary Ann.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Stevens Catholic Church at 24827 S. Dobson Rd in Sun Lakes, AZ on Thursday, October 7 at 9:30 am. Mary Ann will be laid to rest at Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler, AZ.
