He was born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, on April 10, 1938 to Elena Vera (née Lopez) and Mauro Vera. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Margie of Chandler, Arizona, his daughter, Maria Elena, her husband Juan, and their two children – David and Daniel – all of Chino, California; his daughter Rosa Maria of Ontario, California; his daughter Maria Esther, her husband Dan, and their two children – Brandon and Kristen – all of Hemet, California; and his daughter Evonne Suzette, her husband Jesse, and their two children – Madeline and Claudia – all of Chandler, Arizona. He is also survived by his brother Carlos Vera, sisters, Maria Victoria Sanchez, Dolores Vera, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family alike will always remember him for his infectious smile, quick wit and sense of humor, incessant whistling, love of classical music and devouring newspapers and their crossword puzzles. He enjoyed James Bond movies and Rogers and Hammerstein musicals.
His many hobbies included watching football, baseball, and sitcoms such as “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Two and a Half Men.” He also spent his retirement years happily watching the many birds that passed by and made their home in his yard. Above all, his passion for trains and encyclopedic knowledge of the Amtrak train schedule made Mauro the man that we all knew, loved and adored.
Our beloved dad will be interred with full military honors.
Now that you are among the stars, keep watch over us, and we will see you again someday… Arrangements under the direction of Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, Chandler, Arizona.
