Our sweet, caring, and tender soul, Rita Mazzacone, of Peoria, AZ, joined the Lord in heaven on March 27, 2026, at age 84. A loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Rita is rejoicing with Christ Jesus for eternity. Rita was first and foremost a child of God. Her devotion to her Savior and strong Catholic beliefs shined within her. As a prayer warrior, she continually covered her family through her relationship with Jesus.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard S. Mazzacone. Rita described her husband as, “the love of my life and holder of my heart.” Rita was 19 years old and working as a secretary in Washington, D.C., when she met her future husband. They lived in Maryland for a few years before being transferred to Arizona. Rita spoke of the story that she was given the option to move to Alaska or Arizona. Both very far from any family, and both not ideal. However, Arizona became home for the next 57 years. Rita spent many of those years raising children, creating a cabin life in northern Arizona with her husband, leading bible studies, giving marriage retreats and so much more. The blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl from the east coast, married to the dark-haired Italian from New York, created a beautiful life and home together in Arizona.
For years Rita volunteered at the Hospice of the Valley White Dove Shop in Glendale, AZ. She loved serving as a volunteer and made many great friendships during her time at the White Dove. Rita cherished her neighbor friends that supported her like family. She loved making friends wherever she went.
Rita is survived by her four children; Stephen D. Mazzacone, Maria T. Mazzacone Livings, Ann Marie (Annie) Mazzacone George, and Richard L. Mazzacone; six grandchildren; Michael Mazzacone Barreras, Tori Mazzacone Ruthen, Tyler and Emma George, Nathan and Braden Mazzacone, and three great grandchildren, Leighton and Emery Barreras and James Ruthen.
Rita is tenderly remembered for her compassionate and steadfast relationships with her children and grandchildren. She was always available, always present, always loving and nonjudgmental. Her voice and laugh offered much love and comfort. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother and we will miss her every day. Her memory will live on through the lives of those that loved her.
In lieu of flowers you are welcome to make a donation to Hospice of the Valley in Rita's honor.
