SUN LAKES, Ariz. - Robert G. Groves, 76, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died July 9, 2012. after a short illness. Bob was born on December 7, 1935, in Davenport. He attended Davenport public schools and graduated from Davenport High School in 1954. At Davenport High he earned All-State Honors in basketball. In 1967 Bob moved to Rockford, Ill., to accept a position with Martin Marietta. Later he became a founding partner of Fairmount Minerals. He held the position of Vice President of Sales and was transferred to Arizona to head the company's western division. Bob retired in 2001.
Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years Nancy; and three children, Jeffery and Bradley of Loves Park, Ill., and Susan Carpenter of Elk Grove Village, Ill. He is also survived by four granddaughters, two grandsons and one brother, Gary, of Beaverton, Ore.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. November 12 at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, AZ. Bob's favorite charity is the Wounded Warrior Project at supportwwp.org.
