On October 29, 2017 while taking his routine Sunday morning ride with a group of his friends to the top of South Mountain, Robert A. Dollar of Chandler, had his life tragically taken at the age of 36, doing what he loved most, cycling. Rob was born March 16, 1981, in Phoenix, AZ.
As a young boy Rob excelled in soccer, baseball, basketball and wrestling. As he grew his passion moved to dirt biking, which became his obsession with weekly track rides and racing. Also, he loved playing Australian football with some of his closest friends and brother. He won 3 national championships in the United States Australian Football League, 2 with the Arizona Hawks (2004 and 2011) and one with the Los Angele Dragons (2014). His strong desire for getting fit and good nutrition led him to become a personal trainer, pushing others to do their best to be as healthy as they could be and dominate in everything they do, as he did.
Due to injuries, he shifted his focus from dirt biking to cycling. In 2014, Rob moved to California and joined the Big Orange Cycling Team which he represented during daily training rides, road and mountain bike racing. After 2 years he returned to Arizona and started recruiting others to join Big Orange and ride with him. He was known by many as RMFD and his conviction to always Adapt and Dominate!
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Cindy and Mark Suttles, his father and step-mother, John and Laura Dollar; step-father Johnny Marovich, brothers David and Adam, sister Brittany, paternal grandmothers, Harriet Shea and Barbara Peters; maternal grandfather, Tom Harding; nephews, Little J and Maxton, niece, Ilana and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 11, at Arizona Community Church in Chandler. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Robert may be made to https://www.gofundme.com/celebrating-rob-dollars-life. In addition to covering the cost of the memorial and life celebration, the donations will be used to create a foundation to bring awareness to sharing the road and safety for all cyclists.
