

Robert Swartley, age 74, of Renton, Washington passed away on November 16, 2021. He was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He graduated from Franklin High School in Seattle, WA in 1965 and went to trade school to become a carpenter. From November 1966 through November 1970, he served our country in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanical technician. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, he went to Renton Vocational School to become a welder/fitter. He was married to Karen Kraemer in July of 1972 at St Anne’s Catholic Church in Seattle, Washington. They created a home and family in Renton, WA enjoying camping, fishing, and professional sports games. He worked as a welder/fitter for 35 years for multiple companies in Seattle. Bob was a member of the VFW Skyway Post 9430 for over 20 years and was Post Commander for six years. During this time, he was given the nickname “Stubby.” He had a passion for stained glass art that he made for his wife, Karen, and many of his friends and family members. Since retiring, he and his wife became “snowbirds” spending their winters in Arizona and summers in Hood Canal.
Bob was survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Jennifer Swartley-Fridgen (Mike, spouse); son, Brian Swartley; grandchildren, Braden and Lauren Fridgen; sister MaryKay Chambers (Steve, spouse); and brother, Wally Swartley (Carrie, spouse).
Bob’s funeral service will be June 3, 2022 at Tahoma National Cemetery beginning at 11:30am (arrive 15 minutes early). The cemetery is located at 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042. Immediately following the funeral, a Celebration of his Life will be held at the Skyway VFW Post 9430, 7421 S 126th St, Seattle, WA 98178.
