Ronald Francis Conley Sr., of Chandler, Arizona, passed on Thursday, May 25th, 2017. He was born on May 23rd, 1932 in Providence, Rhode Island, where he spent his childhood. In 1955 he married Joan Burns and together they had 4 children, Ronald Jr., Patrick, George, and Christopher.
Ron spent 1951 and 1952 in Korea, serving for the United States as a Sergeant in the Army and again from 1971 through 1972 in Vietnam as Master Sergeant for the Air Force. Ron was a dedicated soldier and decorated war hero having received the following honors throughout his time in the armed services: Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Japan Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Bronze Star Medal.
After arriving back home in the U.S., Ron continued his service to the U.S. Air Force working on-base in Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Arizona. Although Ron maintained a gruff exterior, he always had a soft spot for his grandchildren. He could most often be found bantering with his sons, watching old westerns on TV, drinking Coors Lite, or talking about the Diamondbacks or Patriots. He was quick witted, kind, and an outstanding storyteller.
Ron is survived by his sons, Patrick, George (Lisa), and Christopher (Jeanette); daughter-in-law, Terri (Ron Jr.); grandchildren, Jacqueline (Kenneth), Heather (Keith), Johnathan, Daniel, Colter, and Jordan; siblings, Earl and John; and was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Peter; siblings, George and Maureen; granddaughter, Elizabeth; eldest son, Ronald Jr.; and wife, Joan.
