Susan Weinrich Wells, a proud Casper native with a feisty spirit, fighting heart, and deep love for others, peacefully completed her journey to be with the Lord. Guided by determination and grace, Susan lived life entirely on her own terms and timeline.
Early Days & The Art of Dance
Born on December 19, 1961, to Tom and Julie Weinrich. Susan grew up on the iconic corner of 5th and Beech ("within easy reach"). She attended Park Elementary School and Dean Morgan Junior High before graduating from Natrona County High School (NCHS) with the Class of 1980.
From the young age of five, ballet became Susan’s first love. A natural talent at the Shirley Lewis Dance Academy, she carried both grace and determination from the very beginning. Although the studio was just a short walk from her childhood home, Susan always insisted on getting a ride—after all, walking down the street in a tutu was simply not acceptable. She blossomed beautifully in her craft, mastering everything from traditional ballet to tap, toe and jazz. She lit up recital stages from Casper to Aspen, Colorado, captivating audiences everywhere she performed.
Hard Work & Community Connections
Growing up in the Weinrich family created plenty of "opportunities"—most of which, by today’s standards, would likely be in direct violation of child labor laws. Susan got her start at the Sound System at 1st and Center (The Reef), which eventually grew into the Wine Rack Restaurant at the perimeter of Eastridge Mall.
Later in life, Susan channeled her sharp mind and magnetic personality into her work at the Travel Management Agency. She quickly became the trusted go-to agent for Casper’s oil field executives and community leaders, while also thoughtfully planning dream vacations for local families. To Susan, clients were never just clients—they often became lasting friends.
A Match Made in Casper
Turning back the pages to Park Elementary, Susan experienced her very first encounter with the boy of her dreams. He was two years older, bundled in an orange puffy down coat, looking for all the world like a miniature Michelin Man. That fine young specimen was none other than Pearley H. Wells III.
Though they initially went their separate ways, fate brought them back together in the winter of 1988 when the Wyoming Cowboys ("the Pokes") made it to the Holiday Bowl. Pearley spent hours working his charms on Susan just to secure a seat on the chartered flight to San Diego. From that moment on, their relationship blossomed. After a legendary jaunt to the Colonial Liquor Store with Susan’s brother, Tom, Pearley dug deep into his soul to muster the courage to ask for her hand in marriage. After a bit of wearing down, Tom—perhaps against his better judgment—relinquished and gave his blessing.
To make their special day even more meaningful, they chose to tie the knot on Pearley’s father's birthday. Susan and Pearley were wed on July 15, 1989. The two loved nothing more than to dance together, and they were known for cutting a rug all around Casper.
"The Boss" and Motherhood
Susan’s greatest joy in life was being a mother. She welcomed her son, Pearley IV, on August 21, 1991, and her daughter, Mattie, on February 22, 1994. After Mattie was born, Susan happily chose to become the full-time manager of the Wells home—and make no mistake, she was THE BOSS. She was a fierce protector and a constant presence at all of her children’s events, often accompanied by her beloved one-eyed, three-legged purebred mutt, Nala to any sporting event.
Summers at the lake created some of the happiest memories of our lives, and Susan was at the center of all of them. She made everyone feel loved, welcomed, and safe, creating a place that would always feel like home no matter how much time passed. From our earliest childhood memories through adulthood, she remained our steady presence, our biggest supporter, and the heart of our family.
While she never had grandchildren, she poured that same love and devotion into her beloved grand dogs. She adored them, cared for them deeply, and delighted in every moment spent with them. They were truly part of her family and brought endless joy to her life.
A Legacy of Grace and Strength
For 16 years, Susan courageously battled multiple forms of cancer. Yet, she stubbornly refused to let a terrible disease define who she was. Whenever anyone asked about her health, Susan would effortlessly turn the conversation back to the other person - a reflection of her selfless nature and genuine care for everyone around her. She possessed a rare, instantaneous magnetism that touched hearts everywhere she went.
Survivors & Preceded in Death
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Pearley H. Wells III; her son, Pearley H. Wells IV; her daughter, Mattie Wells; her sister, Karen Stewart; and her brother, Tom Weinrich (Connie).
She was reunited in heaven with her loving parents, Tom and Julie Weinrich.
