Ted was born to Dresmond and Virginia Barish on January 27, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa. As a boy, Ted spent his formative years growing up in Worthington, MN. Ted married his loving wife, the late Barbara Kay Barish, in 1962. For 61 wonderful years the two remained together. He is the father of Paul and the late Ted Barish Jr., father-in-law to Andrea Barish, and grandfather to Lauren and Grant Barish. Ted has two sisters, Sue Snell of Minneapolis, MN and Adrienne Vanzwol, who passed away in 2016.
Ted served in the U.S. Navy, living in several different locations, to include Florida and California. This allowed Ted to pay for college, where he attended South Dakota State University, earning a degree in Engineering.
Ted and Barbara moved to the St. Louis, MO Metro Area in the early 1970s and eventually settled in St. Charles County. Ted began working as an Electrical Engineer at Monsanto, which turned into a prosperous 30+ year career. Even in retirement, he was selected for contract jobs, working and living in locations such as Houston, New Orleans, and even Argentina. Through work and raising their family in a newly built community, Ted and Barbara formulated a network of friends that have lasted for decades.
In 1981, Ted and Barbara purchased a small, one room cabin, located at The Lake of the Ozarks. While it has been said that Barbara was not fully onboard with Ted’s “Fixer Upper” purchase, they made the most of it. Over the years, Ted’s vision of “The Lake House” came into light and this property became their summer home. Ted was always happy to entertain family and friends, which has resulted in hundreds of great memories and laughs. Ted and Barbara spent their winters in Sun Lakes, AZ, where they both enjoyed the warmth and ample access to golfing.
In 2020, a new member of the Barish family emerged: Katie Anne, the Golden Doodle. For a dog, Katie Anne received the treatment every dog should receive. Ted would rarely be seen without her, taking her to any store that would allow dogs, and possibly some that didn’t.
Ted lived a full, memorable life. His memory will live in the hearts of all who knew him. We all will miss him dearly.
A memorial service for Ted will be held at a later date, to be decided.
