On Wednesday, August 4, 2021, Angela “Angie” Cheek went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Greenville, SC on October 9, 1951 to Rev. and Mrs. T.E. Cowart.
She grew up as a child of missionaries and spent the majority of her childhood in India with her sister, Joy. She met the love of her life, Robert “Stretch” Cheek at Central Wesleyan College and they were married for 28 wonderful years. She became a special education teacher and retired after more than 30 years. In her retirement, she filled her days actively involved in ministry at Gateway Baptist Church, international missions, and her grandkids. She will be remembered by her warm smile, strong faith in Jesus, and generous heart.
She is preceded in death by her nephew, David Wesley Cheek; her niece, Branden “Brandy” Wessinger Medina; her husband, Robert “Stretch” Steven Cheek; her great-niece, Lilah Branden Hoey and her parents, Loney Mae Cowart and Thomas Edwin Cowart. She is survived by her sister, Joy Bouknight and spouse, Bill Bouknight; her children, Rebecca Chérie Prichard and spouse, Wesly Scot Prichard, Steven Eric Cheek and spouse, Amanda Carroll Cheek, and Anna Kristin Cheek; her grandchildren, Emma, Jackson, Amelia, Edwin, Jacob, and Clinton and many other cousins, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Angie’s life will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Gateway Baptist Church in Irmo, SC. Visitation will follow the service.
The family would like to ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity or organization to continue the legacy of spreading the message of Jesus and God’s love. Everything Angie did was done from an outpouring of God’s abundant love for her and we would love to know that will be continued.
