Charles Edward Whitener, 79, of Chapin, SC, passed away at Lexington Medical Center on March 22, 2024. He was born September 14, 1944, in Newberry, SC, to Clyde Herman Whitener and Willa Geneva (James) Whitener.
After graduating Union High School in 1962, Charles studied and worked his way through Clemson University. There, he found joy and camaraderie while performing in the Tiger Band. Charles then attended East Tennessee State, where he earned a BS degree in Applied Mathematics in 1970.
After completing his education, Charles sold computers and software for NCR, and later embarked on a fulfilling career as a self-employed computer systems analyst and programmer. He also ventured into the world of entrepreneurship when he and his business partner bought and ran an Orange Julius at Dutch Square in the 1970’s.
Charles showed his undying support for Clemson University by being a proud member of IPTAY. His passion for Clemson football was unmatched, as he attended every home game from 1962 through the mid-2023 season, even when faced with health challenges. He found joy in tailgating with his friends and family. These moments were filled with laughter, friendship, and endless memories that will be treasured forever.
Charles is survived by his friend and former wife, Cheri Whitener of Chapin; his daughter, Caroline (Tim) Snoots of Mt. Pleasant; his son, Charles “Charlie” (Kasie) Whitener, Jr. of Blythewood; his son, Christopher “Chip” Whitener of Chapin; and his two grandchildren: Chase Snoots and Hollie Russ Whitener.
