CHAPIN - Everett Conway Davis, Jr. 69, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Chapin, South Carolina on Friday evening, January 26, 2018. Born in Florence, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Everett Conway Davis and Ruth Jones of Chesterfield, SC. He graduated from Brookland Cayce High School and the University of South Carolina. He married his best friend Barbara Mooneyhan in 1980.
Professionally, Everett worked as a studio cameraman, film cinematographer and producer-director for SCETV for many years, where he received numerous local, national and international awards for his documentaries. He was privileged to work with celebrities including Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood, Hungarian-born film director and cinematographer Laszlo Benedek, and General Daniel “Chappie” James, Jr., a Tuskegee airman during WWII who became the first African-American to achieve the rank of four-star general.
After leaving public television to start his own business, Everett wrote and produced a stage musical based on WWII called ROAD TO VICTORY® that was performed along the eastern seaboard, culminating with a production in Washington, DC, the weekend of the dedication of the National WWII Memorial.
Recently, he produced video interviews with more than 300 World War II veterans. As a licensed researcher at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland, he wove these interviews into documentaries featuring D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and end of the war celebrations in Pilsen, Czech Republic.
Besides serving honorably in the Coast Guard during the Vietnam era, he was a lifetime member of the national organization of the Battle of the Bulge, a board member of the SC Chapter of the Battle of the Bulge Association, and a member of the American Legion.
Everett was a true outdoorsman; he loved to hunt (especially deer) and fish, and enjoyed many rewarding offshore fishing trips with his friends. He was also an avid USC Gamecock supporter.
Besides his wife of the home, he is survived by his daughter, Julie A. Davis Bristow (Cole) of Morganton, NC; daughter-in-law Aggie Davis Jones (Ashley) of Blythewood, SC; five grandchildren, Blake, Jackson and Blythe Davis, Daniel and Kate Bristow; two step-grandchildren, Abby and Mark Jones; sister Sharon Davis Hubbard (Paul) of Montgomery, AL; sister-in-law Linda Mooneyhan Haslett (Bill) of Winnsboro and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son Everett Conway "Rhett" Davis; two brothers, Dean Cornelius Davis and Ricky Carroll Davis; his parents and grandparents; and his parents-in-law, James Richard and Mary Stuckey Mooneyhan.
