CHAPIN – Faye Edith Summer Monts, widow of Herman Jacob Monts, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 17, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Edward and Mary Ella Frick Summer. She was born November 30, 1928, and grew up in the Piney Woods area of Chapin. She married her beloved husband on November 16, 1946. She and Herman lived with her parents until late 1948, before establishing their own homestead on Jake Meetze Road. She and Herman both moved to the Haltiwanger Building of the Heritage at Lowman in April of 2006. Following Herman’s death on July 3, 2010, Faye remained a resident of the Haltiwanger Building, missing her beloved husband increasingly each and every day.
Also preceding her in death was Joe Bennett Summer, her brother who died in childhood; her brother, Richard M. Summer, and her infant grandson, Taylor Monts Falls. Cherishing her life are her five loving children, Laura M. (Charles) Meetze, Larry E., Norman W. “Monk” (Debbie), Annette M. (Fred) Falls, and Lee A. Monts. Surviving grandchildren are Kimberly Meetze (Tommy) Allnutt, Clint (Melissa) Monts, Bethany Monts (Steve) Hobbs, Brandon M. Falls, Clayton A. Falls, McKenzie E. Monts and Chantz G. Monts. Great-grandchildren, Connor Allnutt and Quintin Monts, and step great-grandson, Ethan McCaughey. She is also survived by her siblings, Edward Ellerbe Summer, Mildred Louise Summer Frick and Vera Lurline Summer King.
Faye devoted her life to her Lord and her family. She spent many years teaching Sunday School at St. Thomas Lutheran Church. She was a very loving, compassionate lady. She was a constant companion to her husband, she was mild mannered, full of grace and a caregiver to many. She was also a wonderful cook, as to which her family can attest. Faye was also a lover of the Lord’s bounteous beauty. She loved to watch birds, especially the hummingbirds. For many years she grew rows and rows of beautiful gladiolus flowers which graced many church altars for all to enjoy.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening, November 19, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of St. Thomas Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, November 20, at 3:00 p.m. at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Larry Hagerty will officiate the service. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family will be at the home of Fred and Annette Falls, 237 Jake Meetze Road, Chapin. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of the Haltiwanger Building at the Heritage at Lowman Home for all their love and support of Faye. A warm thank you to the sitters of BeWell and the staff of Lutheran Hospice for all the love and care shown the family during this difficult time.
