
CHAPIN - Robert K. Strickland, Sr. of Chapin passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014. He was born on January 26, 1930 to William K. Strickland, Sr, and Mary Thelma Cone Strickland. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Dorothy A. Strickland; son, Robert Strickland Jr.; brothers, Franklin B. Strickland and Daniel R. Strickland; sisters, Mary S. Holley, Miriam S. Roberts, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen S. Yongue; brothers, William Kelse Strickland, Jr. and Otis C. Strickland, and sisters, Margaret S. Moore and Edith S. Dunnicliff. He had numerous close friends whom he cherished.
Mr. Strickland was born and raised in Columbia. He served in the infantry and signal core in Korea and received a bronze star for distinguished service. He was employed by Southern Bell for 35 years. His last position was as an Electronic Switching Technician. He was a Mason - Acacia Lodge No. 94 AFM, Columbia for over 40 years. He was also a member of the VFW Post 8069, White Rock, SC. He was known for his love of antique cars and railroad memorabilia.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. followed immediately by the funeral at Dutch Fork Baptist Church, in the Family Life Center, 3517 Dreher Shoals Rd, Irmo, SC 29063. Officiating will be Robert's personal friend Mr. Carl Wilkes and Pastor Johnny Muller. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
