David Lee Acord

David Lee Acord, 79, of Charleston, West Virginia, peacefully went to be with the Lord at home on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Born July 26, 1935, in Glen Fork, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Dennie Acord Sr. and Dollie Cook Acord. Dave was a counselor and administrator in the Kanawha School System for 32 years and retired as Superintendent of Schools. He then served as Assistant Superintendent of the Christina School District in Newark, Delaware and later was the General Manager of Coldwell Banker, Assistant Manager of the Kanawha County School Employees Federal Credit Union and Division Director of Shawnee Hills Mental Health Center. Dave also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Goodwill Industries of Kanawha Valley Inc. for 15 years until his retirement in 2011. Dave was a member of The Baptist Temple and a mason. Dave served on numerous boards and councils until his retirement. Dave received his B.S. degree from Morris Harvey College ( now University of Charleston), and his Masters degree and post-graduate degrees from West Virginia University, Marshall University, and West Virginia College of Graduate Studies . He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Haga Acord, daughters Kris Acord Meadows of Nashville, Tennessee and Bobbi Acord Noland of Atlanta, Georgia and son David Lee Acord II of Charleston, West Virginia. Dave also is survived by his loving grandchildren, son-in-laws, daughter-in-law, nieces and nephews, sister-in-law and many special friends. The family will receive friends from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Wilson Funeral Home, 420 Lee St. West in Charleston, West Virginia, and the funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home. Officiating will be Dr. Archie Snedegar. Burial will follow at Cunningham Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Albans, West Virginia.
