

Always so generous to his family and friends he was deeply loved and will be missed dearly. We can take comfort in knowing that he is in a better place where he is at last free of pain and at peace.
Al was born in Hickory, NC on June 13, 1949, later graduating from high school in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he spent his summers working as a lifeguard on the beach. After finishing high school, he served as a Marine in Vietnam. Upon returning to the states, he began a successful, lifelong career in the automotive industry, eventually owning his own dealership in Charlotte. Upon retirement, he spent part of his time as a securities investor.
Al was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing in the ocean. He got a kick out of watching NFL football, especially his favorite Dallas Cowboys. He loved traveling and visited a variety of countries all over the world, including the U.S.
Al is survived by his loving wife of almost 43 years, Vickie Lucas Hafer, his brother, Christopher Todd Hafer, of Savannah, Ga. and his wife, Yvonne, Chris’s sons, Logan Hafer, his children, Liam and Bella, and Shawn Hafer, his son,Tripp. Al is also survived by his niece, Stephanie LaDare Weatherford, and nephew, Cain Windham, his wife, Krisie, and their daughters, Lexie and Londyn. He was also greatly loved by his mother-in-law, Mary Rodgers. Last but not least, Al leaves behind his beloved cat and faithful companion, Daisy Dare.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Luke Hafer, and his mother, Doris Icenhour Hafer, of Taylorville, NC and his sister, Judee Dare Windham, and her grandson, Alex Stubbs, of Charlotte, NC.
A memorial service celebrating Al’s life will be held at a future date to be announced at a later time.
