Born August 28, 1926 in Mecklenburg County, she was the daughter of Harry John and Irene Brown Emerson. Ann attended Queens University and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill. She married William Earl Ranson, Jr. After college, she and Bill settled into a home filled with books, birds, cats and dogs. Ann found a creative outlet volunteering as a set and “prop” designer during the early years of Children’s Theater. She was a member of Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian and Liberty Hall Chapter D.A.R.
Ann was pre-deceased by her parents, husband and granddaughter Margaret Cooper Ranson. She is survived by her son William E. Ranson, III (Billie), granddaughter Courtney Ranson of Arlington VA, step grandson Barrett Garner (Catherine) of Greenville, NC and step great granddaughters, Marie Garner and Hanna Garner.
A victim of stroke induced dementia, Ann became known as the maven of history and religion trivia at her assisted living facility. The family would like to thank the devoted staff at Legacy Heights for their care and compassion. “Miss Annie” truly loved, and was loved by, her care givers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caldwell Memorial Presbyterian Church 1609 East Fifth Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or to Hospice and Palliative Care - Charlotte Region, 1420 E. Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
