

Mrs. Kaplan passed away at her home on Sunday, December 23, 2012. She is survived by her husband, Sam Kaplan; daughters, Rebecca Kaplan, Dorita Arnold and husband Hal, and Rachel Greenfeld and husband Joe; and son, Eli Kaplan and wife Barbara.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Howard Kaplan, and wife Denise, Allie Arnold, Jeffrey Kaplan, Erika Arnold, Adam Kaplan, Alexa Greenfeld, Aiden Greenfeld, Jessica Franks, and Lindsey Winer; brothers, Saul Kozolchyk and wife Anita, and Benny Kozolchyk; and sister, Sonia Luski and husband Isaac. She is predeceased by her parents Elias and Yetta Kozolchyk.
Berta graduated the University of Havana with a degree in pharmacy. In 1955 she married Sam Kaplan; they moved to the United States from Cuba in 1960, and moved to Charlotte in 1961.
Mrs. Kaplan was a life member and past president of the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah. She was a past president of Temple Israel Sisterhood, and supported many philanthropic causes, too many to mention.
Berta’s main passion in life was her family and friends. She was a force of life, who filled any room she entered.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, December 24, 2012 at Temple Israel, 5101 Providence Rd., Charlotte, with the Rabbi Murray Ezring officiating. Interment will follow at Hebrew Cemetery
The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Peter Justis, Dr. Benjamin Brooks, and their staffs, and Dr. Sam Zimmern. A special thanks goes to Kimberly Adams and Gladys Alborte, who helped make the end of her life loving and dignified.
It is the family’s wish that donations go to the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah, Temple Israel, or Chabad.
