

Betty, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2017 in Charlotte, NC. The eighth of ten children, she was born Betty Beatrice Jacky in Twin Falls, ID on April 17, 1925 to the late William Otto and Sadie Elizabeth Jacky. She graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1943.
During World War II, Betty was in Nurses Training in San Francisco, CA. While in training, a friend submitted a photo of Betty to a contest held by the U.S. Navy and she was voted “Queen of the Submarine” by the crew. During this same time period, she met her future husband Jack L. Marvin and they corresponded with each other throughout the war while he was overseas serving as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp. When he returned stateside, the couple was married at Chico Army Airbase in CA where Jack was a Flight Instructor.
Following her husband’s military service, the couple moved to Baltimore, MD where Jack attended Peabody Conservatory of Music and later was employed by the Prudential Insurance Co. In 2000, Betty and Jack relocated to Charlotte, NC to be closer to family.
Betty had a deep love for her family and enjoyed supporting and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her Idaho roots and enjoyed researching family history for both the Jackys and the Marvins. She was an avid duckpin bowler during her years spent in Baltimore. She loved handcrafting all kinds of gifts and thoroughly enjoyed needlepoint and crochet work. She was an avid reader up until her last days and enjoyed reading magazines, western novels, and the Charlotte Observer from cover to cover. Betty also enjoyed toys and games and always had time to bring out her assortment of wind-up toys to show the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a true appreciation of music and the arts. Her love of nature was obvious to all as she was always interested to learn more about animals and birds. In her later years, she especially loved hummingbirds which she would watch at the feeder just outside her patio door.
Betty was the devoted and loving wife of 67 years to her husband Jack who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her son Robert Marvin and her brothers Roland Jacky, Howard Jacky, Lester Jacky, and sisters Florence Weaver, Helen Newberry, Gladys Elmer, Fern Lewis, and Elna Jacky. She was survived by her twin brother Robert Jacky, and her children, Patricia Marvin Weiler and her husband Steve, Steve Marvin, Rick Marvin and his wife Martha. Also, her grandchildren Rebecca Chefran and her husband Yosi, Sarah Hurtado and her husband Mario, Daniel Marvin, Ross Marvin and his wife Caroline, Chad Marvin and his wife Laura, Ricky Marvin, David Marvin, Stephanie Marvin, and her great-grandchildren Noa Chefran, Eden Chefran, and Mario “MJ” Hurtado.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1:00 pm located at 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC. Then a Memorial Service will be held at the Harry and Bryant Funeral Home at 2:00 pm located at 500 Providence Rd in Charlotte with the reception to follow.
