Trusting in God's grace and the promise of eternal life, we celebrate the life of Beverly Scott Holder, a devoted wife, loving mother, mother-in-law, cherished Grammie, and faithful servant of God. She peacefully entered her eternal home with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on May 21, 1937, in her grandmother’s mountain home in Bramwell, West Virginia, she spent her early years in Montcolm, WV, living with her mother and brother while her father served in World War II. In 1946, the family moved to Charlotte, NC, where she built a life rooted in faith, love, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.
A 1955 West Mecklenburg High School graduate, she met the love of her life, George Elwin Holder, in high school while working at Charlotte Dental Laboratory. Their love story was one of deep commitment, shared dreams, and a partnership that spanned 61 beautiful years. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and faith, raising their three daughters whom she adored with all her heart.
Her greatest joy and lifelong calling was being a mother. She embraced this role wholeheartedly, serving as a nurturer and as a chauffeur to countless activities, from sports practices and piano lessons to skate nights and church gatherings. Her hands were rarely still—always cooking, keeping her home impeccably clean, baking, making tons of sweet tea, volunteering, or finding ways to bring joy to those around her.
A woman of steadfast faith, she was a dedicated member of Mulberry Baptist Church from 1960 to 2008 and then Durham Memorial Baptist Church from 2008 onward. She lived out her faith daily, always caring for others with a servant’s heart. From rocking babies in the church nursery in her early years to serving as PTA President at her children’s schools and leading the West Meck Optimist Club in the early ’80s, she found joy in giving back. Whether dedicating her time to the Westmoreland Garden Club or sharing laughter over card games with her Westmoreland neighbors and church friends, she touched lives with kindness, grace, a keen sense of organization, and a steadfast determination to make things happen.
Alongside her husband, they founded Holder’s Dental Laboratory in 1985 and operated until 1997, when they were forced to close due to her husband's declining health. Though she played an active role in the lab, her true passion was always her family, and she considered it her greatest privilege to care for both the business and her family full-time.
She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, George Elwin Holder; her parents, Virginia Martin Scott and Frazier Paul Scott; her brother, Dr. Jimmy Scott; three precious unborn babies she longed to hold; and son-in-law James Russell (Rusty) Paige.
The Holder family will greet family and friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Monday, the 31st of March, 2025 at McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West. A Funeral Service to celebrate her life will follow at 11:00 AM in the Chapel. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith in her daughters, Lisa Holder of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Maria Holder Davis and husband Benny Davis of De Leon Springs, FL, and Melissa Holder of Gastonia, NC; her grandchildren, Tiffany Kline, Robbie Kirkland (Alyssa), and Georgia Kirkland; great-grandchildren, Abigail Kline, Robert Kirkland, Jr., and Jason Kirkland; her sister-in-law Barbara Holder Dresser (Ken Dresser); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Coastal Pointe Assisted Living in Shallotte, NC for the exceptional care, love, and compassion they provided to Mama over the past four years, treating her like family every step of the way. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice for their kindness, support, and gentle care for Beverly and our family during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Coastal Pointe Activities Department (5220 Ocean Hwy West, Shallotte, NC 28470), Greater Vision UMC (11901 Eastfield Road, Huntersville, NC 28078), Durham Memorial Baptist Church (1601 Toddville Road in Charlotte, NC 28214), and Amedisys Hospice (1729 Southport-Supply Rd SE, Suite A, Bolivia, NC 28422) all of which were dear to her heart.
Though our hearts ache with her absence, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace, surrounded by God’s eternal love. Her faith, kindness, and unwavering love will live on in all who knew her.
