

Calvin Cooledge Greene, age 91 of Charlotte passed away January 7, 2014 at his residence. A service to celebrate his life will be at 11:00AM Friday, January 10th in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, Mr. Gene Boatwright officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home, Interment will be in Elmwood City Cemetery with military rites. Mr. Greene was born in Watauga County September 6, 1922 son of the late William Greenville and Flossie Watson Greene. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, a 57 year member of American Legion Post #262 and retired from the sales department of Whirlpool Appliances. He participated in the balloon design on the Fred Kirby Show for children and always answered the telephone as “Duffy’s Tavern”. Surviving are a sister, Reba White of Charlotte, a nephew Darryl White of Belmont, NC, stepchildren, Shirley Snader (Ken) of Vero Beach, Fla., Snookie Smith and John Batts (Brenda) of Charlotte and Margie Small of Conway, SC, twelve step grandchildren, fourteen step great grandchildren, and one step great great grandchild. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Greene and a step son and ten brothers and sisters.
