Carole Evelyn Humphrey

Carole Evelyn Humphrey, 90, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Levine Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, in Charlotte NC. She was in the company of her loving family and in the devoted care of Hospice.

Born August 23rd 1934 in Dayton, OH, she was the daughter of the late John and Marian Henkaline of Strongsville OH. Following graduation from Strongsville High School, Strongsville, OH, Carole furthered her education at Baldwin Wallace University of Berea OH, where she earned a degree in music, majoring in piano, voice and organ.

Carole was involved in the music community everywhere she lived. In Greensboro she played the piano and harpsichord for the Don Trexler Singers. She was a member of the Greensboro Oratorial Society, and she gave piano lessons throughout her life at music studios as well as from home. Carole was organist for McLeansville Baptist Church and choir director and organist for Matthews Presbyterian Church for 10 years. Her family has fond memories of her playing classical music at home on her baby grand piano.

Carole is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ronald Lowell Humphrey; two children, Caron Humphrey Lee, of Charlotte, and Susan Lynn Humphrey of High Point NC; three grandchildren, Troy V Lee, Daniel Renstrom (Jenn) and Jonathan Renstrom, two great grandchildren, Ayden and Thomas Renstrom; as well as her brother, Gary Michael Henkaline of Westerville, OH.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Keven and Tom Henkaline.

A service to celebrate Carole’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024 at Matthews Presbyterian Church located at 207 West John Street in Matthews, NC, with a reception afterwards in the fellowship hall.
