Carolyn Earp, 78, of Charlotte, was born June 27th, 1942 and the Lord embraced and welcomed her into His home on May 1st of this year. She was the daughter of Lulu and John Upton. Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., the family moved to Charlotte where Carolyn met her husband of 59 years, Larry Earp. Carolyn and Larry had three children and she was a devoted mother that adored her husband. Carolyn filled her home with love and happiness.
Carolyn was an avid reader and loved her Bible Study and Mystery novels. She also enjoyed cross-stitch, gardening, and baking. Carolyn’s other passions included serving God and teaching Sunday School for many years as well as supporting the Billy Graham Foundation, Samaritan’s Purse and other Christian charities.
Carolyn’s surviving family includes her husband, Larry G. Earp; daughter, Kathleen G. Earp and son, Larry “Gordon” Earp Jr; grandson, Morgan Wesley Earp and wife, Kaitlyn Matthews Earp, and granddaughter, Army Staff Sgt. Kaitlyn Marie Earp. Also surviving is Carolyn’s brother, Don T. Upton and wife, Jeannie Upton; nephews, Brian Upton and wife, Janelle along with Darren Upton and wife, Susanna and 5 great nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her eldest daughter, CMPD Sgt. Joy Elizabeth Earp-McGraw.
Funeral Service for Carolyn will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, 1601 Toddville Road, Charlotte. The visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service.
