

Carolyn Clarkson Guest, age 90, formerly of Asheville, NC, died June 27, 2024 in Matthews, NC. She was born in Columbia, SC on December 30, 1933, the daughter of the late Alfred Taylor Clarkson, Sr. and Frances Norrell Clarkson.
Carolyn was predeceased by the love of her life and devoted husband of 55 years, Clyde Maxwell (Max) Guest, Jr., her half-brother Alfred Taylor Clarkson, Jr. and her half-sister Ruth Clarkson Tumbleston. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Guest Gilbert, Janet’s husband, Timothy Gilbert, and three grandsons, Michael, Brian and Stephen Gilbert of Charlotte, and by her son, Clyde Maxwell Guest, III and his wife, Pamela Guest, of Plano, Texas.
Carolyn graduated from Dreher High School, attended the University of South Carolina and worked for the South Carolina Education Association. After their marriage, Carolyn and Max resided in Asheville, NC, where she embraced the role of homemaker. She was a wonderful mother, always supportive of her two children in their many activities. A devout Christian, Carolyn was actively involved in many groups and ministries at Arden Presbyterian Church. Reading, gardening, family gatherings and vacations brought great satisfaction to Carolyn. She was a loving and devoted caregiver to both her husband, Max, and her mother, Frances, during their later years. Carolyn loved her grandchildren dearly, always enjoyed her time with them and took great pride in the young men they became. Before her husband’s death, she and Max relocated to Charlotte, NC to be closer to family.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Willowbrooke Court of Matthews Glen and the hospice caregivers of VIA Health Partners for their dedicated service to Carolyn.
A private family graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC.
