She was born July 5, 1935 in Gaffney, SC, the daughter of Harold Thomas and Eva Hamrick Oliphant. After graduation from Gaffney High School, Carolyn attended nursing school at Greenville General Hospital in Greenville, SC, graduating in 1956.
After moving to Charlotte in 1962, Carolyn began her nursing career at the Nalle Clinic where she stayed until her retirement. She loved her work and her patients. Carolyn always made sure patients' phone calls were returned before she left for the day, sometimes being the last to leave.
Carolyn was a member of Harrison United Methodist Church. Her faith and church were very important to her. She loved to travel, and took many trips with the church seniors and friends, as long as it was on the ground. She refused to fly, and nothing could persuade her to get on a plane. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach, tending her flowers and feeding the birds.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Don of 46 years; one daughter, Sharon (Hal) Ashley of Pineville; one stepson, Rick (Sharon) Reynolds of Fort Mill, SC; two grandchildren, Justin (Mallory) Ashley of Fort Mill, SC, Elizabeth (Nathan) Riley of Nashville, TN; a brother, Tom Oliphant of Charlotte; and a nephew, Todd Oliphant of Columbia, SC.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her niece, Stacey Spell.
Services for Carolyn will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Harrison United Methodist Church, 15008 Lancaster Hwy., Pineville, NC 28134, with the visitation beginning at 1:00 pm; the funeral at 2:00 pm; and the committal service immediately afterwards in the Cemetery.
We wish to give a special thanks to Carolyn's caregivers, Manuela and Mina, for taking such good care of her.
