

Chesser Brown, 39, of Winston-Salem, NC, formerly of Charlotte, passed away on March 13, 2010 at the NC Baptist Hospital. He was being treated for minor injuries sustained while riding a moped, but developed a rapid heart- beat and suffered a heart attack.
Born in Charlotte, NC on August 4, 1970, Chess was the only beloved child of Edward Morrison Brown and Constance Nock Brown.
He was a unique individual who was buffered by a deep spirituality. He was an artist who studied with Elizabeth Ross at CPCC, where he won a second place merit award for his painting of Delphi in Greece. He attended SCAD in Savannah, and graduated from Dore Academy, CPCC, and Pfeiffer University in Charlotte. He was fortunate to have traveled to several countries and used these resources for many of his paintings. He was so happy with his move to Winston-Salem where he was fortunate to have many friends.
He is survived by his parents, an aunt, Amy Brownlee of Elizabeth City, NC, many cousins, his special friend, Frank Partridge of Winston-Salem, and Frank’s family, his beloved pets, Sofia, Zoe, and Mitzi. He was buoyed up in life by pets who have passed on: Toby, Miss Tigs, Bette, and Gypsy.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Avalon Bunting Nock and Elbridge Hugh Nock, and by his paternal grandparents, Margaret Morrison Brown and William Govan Brown; and an uncle, Claude Bryan Nock.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010 at Harry & Bryant Company in Charlotte. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested a donation be made to the Chesser M. Brown Scholarship Fund at Dore Academy, 1727 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28207, or to a charity of choice.
