Claire Shearer

Claire grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY and married Bernard Shearer in 1947. They moved to Hewlett, Long Island, NY, where they raised their family. Claire was devoted to her husband and two children, James and Karin. When James began his medical practice in Charlotte, NC, Claire and Bernard settled there as well, enjoying the Jewish community and the weather for the next few decades of their lives.

Claire took loving care of Bernard throughout his long illness until he died in the year 2000. She was also predeceased by her parents and her brother, Alan Novograd. She is survived by her children, James and Karin; her grandson, Noah Shearer; her son-in-law, John Schroeder; and her granddogs, Turbo and Rusty, who will miss her treats of bread whenever they’d come to visit. She is additionally survived by her three sisters, whom she loved and spoke with frequently, Celia Elfenbein, Paula Feldbaum, and Selma Green, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, January 15, at Temple Israel, 4901 Providence Rd. in Charlotte, with Rabbi Murray Ezring officiating. Interment will follow at Hebrew Cemetery.
