

The family will receive friends at 1:00pm Monday, November 27, 2017 at Newell Presbyterian Church, with a memorial celebration of his life to follow immediately afterward. The celebration will conclude with a brief graveside service at the Newell Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Doc was born May 17, 1931 in Mooresville, NC, son of the late Joseph Love and the late Maude Love. He was a graduate of Newell High School class of 1950, where he served as class president, and was a member of the baseball team. He attended King’s Business College.
Upon his graduation from Newell, Doc married his high school sweetheart Doris Crump on September 9, 1950.
He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in 1992 after 30 years of dedicated service.
Doc loved the Lord. He was a member of Newell Presbyterian Church for most of his life, serving in many capacities including deacon and elder. Also he loved singing in the choir where he participated for all of his adult life.
He was a devoted and faithful husband, father and grandfather, cherishing the times spent with his family.
Doc was especially fond of raising bluebirds and gardening. He raised countless bluebirds through the years and was quick to put up a bluebird box wherever he could find a place to hang one. Doc thoroughly enjoyed having a garden every year, and was particularly fond of growing tomatoes, eager to share them with neighbors, friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 56 years, Doris Love; his brother Melvin, his sisters Margaret Shumaker and husband harry, and Rae Poteat and husband Bill.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 7 years, Lorraine N Love; his children, Vincent Love and wife Kary of Harrisburg, Kevin Love and wife Carol of Chesness, SC, and Gwyn Martin of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Megan Love of Harrisburg, Colton Love of Baton Rouge, LA, Erin Gottschall and husband Brandon of Columbia, SC, Kristen Tedder and husband Brandon of Lynchburg, VA, Davis love of Columbia, SC, Grace Carnell and husband Daniel of Inman, SC, Alex Martin of Greenville, SC, and Catherine Martin of Charleston, SC; and his great granddaughter Ella Gottschall of Columbia.
