Daisy was born on July 14, 1957 in Lake City, South Carolina and was the eldest daughter of Daisy Henneghan but was raised by her grandmother, Corinne Wilson. Following her graduation from Lake City High School, Daisy started her career in the United States Army on November 30, 1977 and dedicated over 14 years of her life to service of country. She was honorably discharged as a Sergeant and eventually settled into her home in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband Raymond Awkward.
The joy of Daisy’s life was showing love to her family. She adored her husband, Raymond, whom she married on November 30, 1983. Daisy loved gardening and planted everything from flowers to tomatoes. She loved amusement parks, going fishing, traveling and she loved cooking large meals for family and friends, especially during the holidays. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she absolutely loved to decorate and give the perfect gift to her loved ones.
Daisy is survived by her husband, Raymond; her son J. Dante Awkward; her daughter and son-in-law Jasmine and Robert Jones; and her four beloved grandchildren, Moriah Alyvia, Anthony Michael, Jeremiah Rashad and Roman Lamar.
A service to celebrate Daisy’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 281441.
