His son was by his side with other family members close by.
Born October 15, 1948 to Daniel Dominic Healion and Lorraine Marie Regan, Daniel was a true New Yorker – born to an Irish family at St. Vincents Hospital in New York City and spending his early years walking with his family to the Cloisters and the Bronx Zoo, before moving from the Bronx to Long Island.
After graduating from Chaminade High School, and attending Nassau Community college for a year, Dan decided to enlist as a combat medic during the Vietnam war. Trained in San Antonio and San Francisco, Dan left for Vietnam, serving in Fire Support Bases near the Lao border, and at hospitals in Hue and Saigon from 1969 to 1972. Dan met some of his best friends in the Army, including Ralph Hatcher, who went on to become a doctor, and Jim Brady, a friend from the neighborhood who continued his career in the military. After leaving Vietnam, Dan’s analytic mind found him a home in computer programming, where he worked on mainframe computers at banks and insurance companies.
Dan married Marlene Blank on a cold, wintry day in January, 1977. They had 44 years of marriage together and two children, Daniel Healion and Lauren O’Laughlin, who continue to bring them great joy. They are also the proud grandparents of two grandchildren, Henry and Ava O’Laughlin. The eldest Daniel is survived by his siblings Moira Bartell of Bayville, NY, Deirdre Healion of Indian Land, SC, Siobhan Healion of Riverdale, NY, and Sean Healion of Ormond Beach, FL.
He will be remembered for his artistic gifts, his dry sense of humor, and his talent for finding the fun in any situation by everyone who knew him well.
