Deborah M Yates

Deborah Maloney Yates, 70, of Charlotte, NC, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 18, 2026. She was born in Roanoke, VA, on January 17, 1956, to the late John Russell Maloney and Marion Sutton Maloney.

Debbie was a dedicated wife to her husband, a loving mother to her children, a thoughtful sister to her siblings, and a devoted daughter to her parents. She always made sure that her family came first. Debbie was selfless in all that she did, caring for others first and helping wherever help was needed.

She spent time as an employee of the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system, her warm smile welcoming teachers and students alike in the offices of Rama Road Elementary and East Mecklenburg High School. She volunteered as PTA president, treasurer, and room mother, as well as den leader for her sons in Cub Scout Pack 95.

Debbie loved visiting the beach, spending time with her friends, and making memories with her family. Though she built her life in Charlotte, her home would always be the foothills of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Debbie will be remembered by all as a friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand, a listening ear, and her loving heart.

She will be greatly missed by all. Surviving her are her husband of 42 years, Paul Yates; her sons, Matthew and Derek; her stepson, John and family; her sisters, Janet M. Powell and husband Rick of Statesville, NC, and Linda M. Osborne and husband David of Mableton, GA. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and many other beloved relatives.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all who have helped to support Debbie and fight alongside her through her illness. Please help us to memorialize Debbie through contributions to the Levine Cancer Institute or the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.

The family would like to invite friends to visit Friday, May 1, 2026 at McEwen Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00pm. Floral arrangements, in honor of Debbie, can be sent to the Funeral Home to arrive prior to the visitation. Services will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 10:00am at McEwen Funeral Home in Charlotte, NC. Interment will follow services at Sharon Memorial Park.
