It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Syfer on August 17th at the age of 83. She passed peacefully at home in Fort Mill, South Carolina with her daughters by her side following a fight with congestive heart failure.
Diane Marie Nock Syfer was born to Kathryn Bowman Nock and Ernest Rowland Nock on September 28, 1940 in Akron, Ohio. She attended Cuyahoga Falls High School (class of ‘58) and Mount Union College earning a degree in Sociology (Class of ‘62). She met William Edward Syfer while they were both living in Chicago and they married on December 7, 1963 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The wedding took place at her childhood home on 17th Street where Bill and Diane later raised their family. They were married for 53 years and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by taking their entire family on a Caribbean cruise.
Diane is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Syfer, and her granddaughter, Jacqueline Diane Weiss. She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Snopik (Paul), Sandy Weiss (Jeff), and Debbie Leatherman, as well as her grandchildren: Maggie Snopik (26), Megan Snopik (23), Will Snopik (21), Katie Leatherman (18), Lauren Leatherman (16), and Alex Weiss (16). Diane is also survived by her brother Denis Nock and family of Colorado.
Diane was a loving mother and Nana, as well as a wonderful friend. She lived most of her life in Cuyahoga Falls, OH before spending the last 12 years living in Sun City Carolina Lakes in Fort Mill, SC. Diane was always very social and enjoyed playing cards, tennis, golf, bridge, dominoes, and traveling - especially to their condo on Hilton Head Island. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, PEO, and a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls. She was incredibly active in her children and grandchildren's lives, never missing a cross-country meet, band show, soccer game, volleyball game, choir concert, or opportunity to chaperone. Diane will be missed by many and remembered as quick to laugh and always up for a gathering with family or friends.
A visitation will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 22nd with a service for close friends and family at 1:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home in Pineville.
