Born and raised in New York, Lou carried her Puerto Rico roots with pride, eventually journeying through Baltimore and settling into Southern life in North Carolina. She spent her life uplifting others — whether through a perfectly styled haircut, a well-set table, a warm cup of afternoon tea, or a conversation that made you feel truly seen. She was an artist of many forms: a lifelong reader, art lover, and devoted symphony-goer. Professionally, she was a gifted cosmetologist who continued to cut and style hair well into her 70s and 80s, welcoming clients into the salon attached to her home. She was a cheerful giver with a heart for service who supported her local community, gave generously to Puerto Rico and to The Humane Society of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vance Shepherd, and was the devoted daughter of the late Manuel and Dolores Pedraza. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to experience her vibrant spirit.
A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 2pm at Forest Lawn East Cemetery located at 3700 Forest Lawn Drive in Weddington, NC.
