.Dorethea Mae Bridges Morris, the earthly family, friends and neighbors of Dorethea Mae Bridges Morris had to bid farewell Tuesday evening, as Dorethea was called home to be with those who had gone before. There was a party in Heaven, for sure, with a crowd to welcome her to her eternal home. Born in Rockingham, NC the eldest daughter of James and Mary Bridges, she moved to Charlotte as a child, making her home on Charlotte’s west side. She graduated from Thomasboro School, and established a home with her sweetheart, Curtis Melvin Morris, in 1948. Most of her career was spent in the offices of Traveler’s Insurance, and then Presbyterian Hospital. Dorethea became a member of the family of God at a very early age and practiced her Christianity until her last breath was taken. She was a stalwart member of Thomasboro Baptist Church, always ready to help with the planning and execution of the many activities within. Most often, you could find her in one of the nurseries, nurturing one of the many, many lives she touched with her kindness and love. All who knew her will attest to the fact that Dorethea always though of others before herself. She was an avid shopper, with an eye on bargains and always had a little gift to cheer with, food to share, and sage advice given in earnest. She was easy to befriend and to find a better friend would be quite a difficult task. Her life was not an easy one, as serious illness first became a part of her life in the early 60’s, leaving her with chronic pain for her remaining years. Her courage and perseverance were such that few knew th depth of her suffering. She maintained friendships without regard to age, race, religion or social status. Her place in all our lives will remain vacant, as her presence could never be duplicated. Family was foremost to Dorethea, and she leaves behind her daughter, Sylvia and husband, Gene Deese of Charlotte, grandchildren, Chad and Cameron Deese and great grandson, Tryston of Charlotte, Ashley and David Howard and great grandchildren, Gabriell and Lilly of Oak Island, and Justin and Jordan Deese and the latest great granddaughter, Piper of New Bern. Also left behind are sisters, Idell Wyatt of Aiken, SC, Mary (Libby) Matthews of Charlotte, and brother, Ralph Bridges of Hickory along with the many nieces and nephews. Meeting her at Heaven’s pearly gates were her parents, her husband, Curtis, her brothers, Lawrence and Claude and a host of others, along with Jesus himself. Dorethea had anxiously looked forward to meeting, and to the conversations they would have. Friends and family will assemble Thursday, December 30, at Forest Lawn West for visitation at 1:00PM, then for the service at 2:00PM, before Dorethea is laid to rest. May her presence glorify the Heavens and her memories be with us forever.
