

Mrs. Hummel, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the Sunrise Senior Living residence.
A native of Charlotte, Dot was born on March 27, 1920, daughter of the late Elizabeth Starr. After graduating from Central High School and attending Kings Business College, she worked many years for the administrative offices of Southern Bell before leaving to attend to her family. Embracing her love for children she later returned to teaching kindergarten at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Hummel was witty and spirited, loved to travel, and was devoted to her two sons and husband of 57 years. She treasured communion with her church, First Presbyterian, serving on numerous committees and working with its Loaves and Fishes ministry. She was awarded an honorary life membership in the Presbyterian Women, and sincerely enjoyed the fellowship and worship with the church family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dorian Fowler Hummel and is survived by son Doug Hummel of Charlotte, son Scott Hummel and wife Cindy McCauley of Greensboro, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Harry and Bryant Company, “Chapel in the Oaks” at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 17, 2011 with the Reverend Wesley B. Barry presiding. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 1:45 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
