Mrs. Dorothy Etta Caldwell Williams, 90, died quietly surrounded by love on January 14, 2012, at Aldersgate Methodist Retirement Community. She was the loving wife of 57 years to Boykin Frederic Williams Sr. (1920-1998).
Born on Feb. 16, 1921, in Hampton Va. where her father worked on ships during the war, they soon moved to Charlotte. She attended First Ward Elementary a couple of blocks from her home and Piedmont Junior High. She graduated from Central High in 1939. For many decades she was a dedicated member of the Virginia Asher Bible Class. She was a committed member of Memorial Methodist and then First United Methodist Church. She worked for many years first at Lebo’s Shoes in uptown Charlotte, then Sears uptown and after it moved to Eastland. She worked hard to assist her children and grandchildren to get an education.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her two sons, Hilary Frank Williams; B. Frederic Williams, Jr. and his wife Helen M. Williams; and her grandchildren Michelle and Sean; Terri, Mari, Carrie, Tom, Anne, and Ed; and great-grandchildren; Etta, Emily, Trinity, and Justin; and her Sister in law, Kathaleen Caldwell.
