

Mr. Edward Walter “Eddie” Black, Jr., 71, of Charlotte, passed away on May 2, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center University with his loving wife Becky by his side. We all rejoice because his faith in God gave him peace as he went to his heavenly home. A native of Charlotte, he was the son of the late Walter and Pauline Ross Black. He was a graduate of Garinger High School and Central Piedmont Community College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Black retired after 43 years of employment in the management of banking service integrations at Wells Fargo Bank. He was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church. Eddie loved to travel with his wife Becky, and during their 44 years of marriage visited all 50 of our United States. He also loved sports—particularly baseball (visited EVERY Major League Stadium in the United States); was a NASCAR fan, notably a Jeff Gordon Fan; followed the Carolina Panthers and was an original PSL owner; LOVED fishing at Holden Beach and playing rounds of golf (having lettered in Golf at Garinger High).
Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Rebecca Jean Phillips Black, by his sister, Barbara Hargett (Wyatt) of Matthews, by nephew Tod Hargett (Christine) of Matthews, by niece Darlene Hargett Blake (Tim) of Raleigh, by niece Christine Thomas (Joe) of Charlotte, and by nephew, Scott Low of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bolin (Galen) of Charlotte and Sandra Low (Cameron) of Mooresville. His great nieces and nephews, Brittany, Anthony and Alexandria Blake; Price and Jackson Hargett; and Sienna Thomas; and mother-in-law, Sue Beam Phillips of Charlotte also survive him.
The family will receive friends at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 1:30 until 2:30 PM. A service celebrating Eddie’s life will begin at 2:30 with Rev. Bobby Morrow and Rev. Stan Heiser officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Sharon Memorial Park.
