Mickey was born in Youngstown, Ohio on January 30th to Thomas and Eileen. He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Brenda (Kittle) Gibbons; two children son, Gary Gibbons, and daughter, Heidi Wilson and her husband Brad Wilson; grandchildren, Justin and Tyler Wilson; and his brother, Jerry Cox. Mickey also leaves many family and friends who he cared for deeply.
Mickey is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Cox; brothers, Thomas Gibbons, Joe Sr. Martin and Timothy Martin.
After completing his service with the Army during the Vietnam war, Mickey started working in the steel industry growing into a career of Sales. This led him to move from Youngstown, Ohio to Charlotte in 1977. Mickey had a fulfilling career in refractory sales that he retired from this past July 2018.
Mickey enjoyed watching boxing with his grandsons, FOX news and spending time with his family. He was blessed with being able to capture your attention when telling a story and was always able to make people laugh. He had a wonderful way with words. Family meant the world to Mickey and he was always there for them. He was the person everyone went to for guidance and help, family and friends.
The family would like to invite you to a Memorial Service celebrating his life on Friday, February 8th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at McEwen Chapel Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
