Elena del Carmen (DelMonte) Giblin

Elena del Carmen DelMonte Giblin, age 90, died peacefully at the Stewart Health Center at the Cypress of Charlotte, on October 15, 2021. She was born in Camagüey, Cuba in 1930, the daughter of Elena Margarita de la Caridad Alvarez DelMonte and George Rafael DelMonte y Ponce de León. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1944, when she was 13 years of age.

Elena graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS degree from North Georgia College.

She married Thomas Richard (Dick) Giblin II, M.D. on July 24th, 1954 in Atlanta, GA. While Dick was in his long medical training, she supported the family for many years, working as a medical technologist. After several moves during Dick’s training, they settled in Charlotte in 1965 with their four children.

During her life, she enjoyed many hobbies and activities. Elena and Dick loved to travel all over the world. She was an avid tennis player for many years, loved snow skiing, and dabbled in painting. She will be remembered for her love of entertaining friends and family at her wonderful parties. Above all, she adored her children and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Richard (Dick) Giblin, and her granddaughter, Rachel Reynolds Giblin.

She is survived by her daughter Cecilia (Stephen) Hipp, and sons Thomas III (Rebecca)Giblin, Gregg Giblin I, and Michael (Wendy) Giblin Sr. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Gregg Giblin II, Jennifer (Matthew) Hipp Kennedy, Melissa Giblin, Ryan (Kristen) Hipp, Thomas (Heather) Giblin IV, Evan (Haley) Hipp, Keala Giblin and Michael Giblin Jr, and four great-grandchildren: Vayda Giblin, Kalissa Giblin, Gregg Giblin III and Maxwell Kennedy.

A funeral mass will be held at The Catholic Parish of St. Vincent de Paul, Charlotte, North Carolina on October 26, 2021 at 1:15pm.

In lieu of flower’s, memorials may be made to the Morrison Family YMCA, Attn: Rachel Giblin Memorial Gift, 9405 Bryant Farms Rd., Charlotte, NC 28277.
