Elizabeth 'Pat' Carswell McEwen

Mrs. McEwen of Charlotte passed away on September 25, 2017 at 84 years of age. She was born in 1933 to J.C. and Blanche Carswell in Burke County. She was predeceased by her late husband Robert J. McEwen, III.

Mrs. McEwen placed a special emphasis on working with and helping children, whether as a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday School teacher, working on the PTA or supporting various children’s charities. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by DuPont in Charlotte, NC. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where her husband and his parents were all Charter Members.

She dearly loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them among the wildflowers at her mountain house on the South Toe River in Yancey County. One of her favorite pastimes was hiking and she enjoyed introducing her Girl Scouts to its joys on the Appalachian Trail.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan E. McEwen, her sons Jeffrey D. McEwen and Robert J. McEwen, IV and his wife Dr. Marianne McEwen; and five grandchildren, Stanton T. Bryan, Jr, and his fiancée Rebecca Boivin, Elizabeth Bryan White and her husband Daryl White, Abigail M. McEwen, Elizabeth C. McEwen and Christina E. McEwen. She is also survived by her sisters Doris Beach and Hazel Dale and brothers Donald Carswell and Gary Carswell and her nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate her life will be held in the sanctuary of Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead St, Charlotte NC 28204 at 11:30 A.M. on Friday September 29, 2017 and will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Bob Henderson. The family will greet friends after the service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private.
