Emma "Betty" Elizabeth (Haigler) Vita

Emma Elizabeth (Betty) Haigler Vita, 98 of Charlotte NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022. The eldest daughter of the late Adam Baxter Haigler and Mary Ethel Hagler Haigler was born on May 26, 1924 in Charlotte NC. After graduating from high school and attending comptometry school she went on to work for EXXON Corporation until her retirement.

Betty was predeceased in death by her husband Harold Francis Vita who was the love of her life. During their married years they enjoyed traveling and cooking together and often spoke of opening a restaurant. Having no children of their own, for many years they found much joy and blessings in helping needy families at Christmas.

She was a longtime member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church where she participated in different areas of the church and especially enjoyed being a part of the cooking team for the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Prayer group. She later moved her membership to East Calvary Baptist Church in Charlotte where she was active in its initial growth. Gardening was a favorite pastime along with baking and especially pecan pies picked from the trees in her yard.

She is predeceased by two brothers Calvin G. Haigler and Rev. Paul M. Haigler, two sisters Mildred Haigler Williams and Grace Evelyn Haigler, a nephew, Paul Preston Williams, two nieces Karen Lynn Haigler and Tammy Williams Bezri and two great nephews Bradford Thomas Beattie and Gary Paul Rice. She is survived by a sister, Yvonne Haigler Morton and a number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Sharon Memorial Park 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28212.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. S. Steven Haigler, Thomas G. Haigler, Brian A. Beattie, Brandon K. Beattie, Thomas M. Ramsey, T. Scott Ramsey and JW (Pete) Scercy.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to The Bradford Thomas Beattie Memorial Scholarship Fund, PO Box 673, Gaffney, South Carolina 29342-0763 or to the charity of one’s choice.
