Born and raised in Charlotte, Eric graduated from West Mecklenburg High School and later earned his degree from NC State University. He built a long and successful career in banking technology, serving with First Union, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo, where he was known as the primary architect of advanced banking software that shaped the way countless people bank today.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Eric lived a life full of adventure and joy. He was most at home on the water-boating, fishing, or traveling the world for scuba diving along with his son, Alex, and stepson, Mathias. His irreverent humor, quick wit, and contagious laughter made him unforgettable to everyone who knew him.
Eric loved cooking-earning the highest compliment when his father told him his dishes were as good as his mother's-and he took great pride in his depth of knowledge of technology and how things worked-he was a walking/talking encyclopedia!
He is preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Evelyn Gibson, his beloved son, Alex, and nephew, Josh Windsor. He is survived by his sister Janet and brother-in-law, Jim Windsor; and sisters, Deborah and Donna Gibson; his stepson, Mathias Mena; his nephews and nieces, Justin and Lana Windsor; Derek Clifton; and Dylan and Clarice Clifton; and his stepmother, Ruth Conder, as well as an extended family of friends and relatives.
Eric will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery beside his son, Alex, and parents in a private family service. A celebration of his life, filled with laughter and memories, will be held at a later date.
Eric will be remembered with love, humor, and gratitude for his abundant generosity which enriched the lives of those he loved.
