Early in her life, she moved to Charlotte, and considered herself a native. She graduated from Myers Park High School, and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. When her duties as a full-time mother were coming to a close, she renewed her studies at Queens College, and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Music. She loved children, and taught piano lessons in her home for a number of years. She was a member of the Charlotte Piano Teachers Forum, and was state and nationally published in her writings on teaching piano. She taught several classes in the Continuing Education Department at Queens College.
She was an avid seamstress and craftsperson, well-known for her abilities and creativity. She was known for her beautiful gardens, her love of all things “kitty”, and her famous “Herman” coffee cakes. Mrs. McMillan was a member of the Costume Committee of the Mint Museum Auxiliary, past president of the Charlotte Architect’s Auxiliary, and for many years, active in her church and the schools her children attended. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and derived much joy from helping others.
Mrs. McMillan was predeceased by her husband, Randolph Kay McMillan, in December 2012. Survivors include her daughters, Margery M. Lindh, Judith M. Robertson (Todd) and Lynda M. Folz (Don), as well as her special caregiver and adopted daughter, Tammy Ridenhour. Grandchildren include Brian Lindh, Kathryn L. Garcia (Gio), Andrew Lindh, and Christopher Robertson. Also surviving is her sister, Ann H. Barry of Brunswick, Maine; nieces; a nephew; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 in the Morrison Chapel at Covenant Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25th at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte; and also on Tuesday, following the graveside service, at the home of Linda and Don Folz.
