

Evelyn Burdette “Nanny” Barnes, age 86, beloved wife of the late John Columbus Barnes, went to be with our Heavenly father surrounded by her family that loved and adored her. Born in Iva, SC on November 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Robert Clyde and Lida Chapman Burdette.
Evelyn, affectionately known as Nanny to all, spent her years working along side her husband, Johnny, as an auto mechanic and co-owner of Paw Creek Auto Electric, before opening her own business, Paw Creek Fabrics.
Throughout her years she devoted her time as a seamstress to her friends and family, constructing multiple wedding gowns and other custom made apparel. Her years were also spent serving The Lord as a long-time member of Oakdale Baptist Church and had the honor of holding many stations as a lifelong member of the Long Creek Chapter of the OES.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Joan Barnes Dye of Dallas, Jane Barnes Capps of Stanley and Johnny Sue Dellinger(Tim) of Stanley; 2 sisters, Lillian Haire and Alice Johnson; 2 brothers, Douglas Burdette and Robert Burdette; 7 grandchildren, Julie Summey(Doug), Cathy Spargo(Andy), Heather Brabble(Danny), Brandy Capps(Tammy), Jenae Polk(Brian), Amanda Deason(Ben) and Sunni Mayer. 6 great grandchildren, Jessica(Adam), Jonathan, Landis, Gabbi, Haley and Jennifer. She was predeceased by sons-in law Billy Capps and Walt Dye. Also predeceased by a sister Louise Fleming and a brother Arthur Burdette.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 17th, 12 Noon in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Gilstrap to officiate. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be offered through www.forestlawnwest.com.
