Faith was born January 2, 1927 in Concord, NC, the youngest of three girls, to Mark and Fronie Gray. After graduating from Hartsell High School, she attended the Mercy School of Nursing in Charlotte.
She was married 47 years to Thomas A Barringer, Jr., until his death in 1995. Their first child, Melody, was born in 1952 with Down syndrome, which had a profound impact on their lives. Faith worked tirelessly on issues related to the special education school system in Charlotte; along with a handful of other parents, she was instrumental in the formation of schools and transportation to those schools for children with special needs.
A woman with deep empathy, she had a passion to do whatever she could for the less fortunate individuals who came into her life, and she never shied away from expressing her ardent views on the need for social justice and equality.
Her favorite recreation was taking walks on the beach, which sadly ended after a stroke in 2000. Her favorite pastime in recent years was having her son Mark chauffeur her around Charlotte and surrounding areas to enjoy old, and new, haunts. Although physically limited for the last 20 years, her zest for life was not diminished in the least, as expressed daily in her dress and appearance, her smiles and laughter, and her immense joy in seeing family members.
Faith is survived by her two sons, Tom and Mark Barringer; a daughter-in-law, Ginnie Barringer; three grandchildren, Jessica, Laura, and Emily Barringer; and two step-grandchildren, Casey and Claire Collins.
The Barringer family will greet friends from 12:00 noon until 12:45 pm on Friday, May 14, 2021 at McEwen Funeral Home at Myers Park, 500 Providence Road. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 1:00 pm in the Chapel. Family burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
